How to Pack Electronics for an Upcoming Move | Winter Moving & Storage

Moving can be frustrating, especially when you have to pack or store your electronics. It doesn’t have to be that way though. In fact, it can be one of the simplest parts of the move, if you have kept the original boxes your electronics came in. If you haven’t, you can still move your electronics safely, you just have to be a little creative when boxing them up.

Cables and Accessories

Once you have removed your cables, place them in a small box or Ziploc bag and label them accordingly. If you can place them in the same box as television, computer, printer, etc. Make sure to wrap each cable separately so that you don’t end up with a lot of knots and tangles.

Bubble Wrap and Tissue Paper/Packing Materials

Wrap the device in bubble wrap. Have tissue paper and other packing materials on hand to place around the device once you have it inside the box. This will prevent it from being bounced around inside the box.

Find the Right Box

When moving, shipping, or storing any type of electronic device, you need to have the right size and type of box. Once you have found a box that the device fits into, use the tissue paper or other packing materials to secure the device inside the box. You should use enough packing materials so that the device is secured but no pressure is placed on it.

Secure With Tape

Secure the seams with strong packing tape. Duct tape isn’t pretty, but it is strong and prevents the box from popping open during the move. Tape in two directions for extra support if the box is heavy.

Label Appropriately

Any time you pack a box, you should always label it, first by room and second by what is in it. When you are packing electronics, don’t forget to put an arrow with “This End Up” to ensure that the box always stays in an upright position. This makes it easy for the movers to put each box where it belongs making the unloading go smooth and incredibly fast.
