Packing doesn’t have to be a laborious project that demands days to complete. Take time to plan the packing process, and it will be that much easier to get everything ready to go promptly. Our moving professionals can help facilitate your transition. We have compiled six tips that will expedite the packing process.
1. Categorize Your Belongings
The moving process will be a lot quicker if you take the time to sort your belongings. Categorize items and marking boxes will be that much easier. Perhaps more critical, labeling everything makes the unpacking process much more manageable. You can quickly place the boxes into their rightful rooms without wondering about contents.
2. Clean Ahead of Time
Dedicate a day to cleaning, so you don’t have to rush through this important part of moving at the last minute. The only cleaning you should do on moving day is vacuuming. If you get the bulk of the cleaning out of the way a day or two before the actual move, you will have ample time for a comprehensive walk-through the night before you move.
3. Have a Bags for Essentials
Can you imagine packing away your toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, soap, and shampoo a couple of days before your move and forgetting which boxes these essentials are in? Many people do just that. Resist the urge to pack your essentials randomly and resist the temptation to pack toiletries until the final day. Put your toiletries, water, food, keys, medications, and other essentials in a bag or box that is marked. This way, you can quickly grab the daily essentials you need for days before and including the day of your move.
4. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help
The most important thing you can do expedite your progress is to ask for help from friends, family, and our moving professionals. If you are like most people, you have more than your fair share of possessions.
Do not attempt to pack every single thing by yourself. There is no shame in asking for help from your friends and family. Give them clear directions about how you would like your items packed and move on to other tasks. In other words, don’t micromanage. If three to four people help you pack, the process might take hours as opposed to days.
5. Consider Packing in Reverse
Envision the layout of your new home as you pack your possessions. Think about how you would like the unloading process to go and load boxes accordingly.
First, fill and load the boxes into the moving van that are most likely to go in the back of your new residence. Furniture is the last thing you should load on your moving van/truck. This way, when you arrive at your new apartment or house, you can unload your furniture before anything else.
