5 Tips To Make Moving During The Holidays Painless

Whether you’re moving across the country or across town it can be a stressful and chaotic experience.  When you add the stress of the holidays on top of that they can seem like an impossible task.

However, with a little bit of planning, you can make moving during the holidays a relatively stress-free and doable experience. When you implement the following five tips you will have a solid strategy that will make your move as pleasant as possible.

1. Create A Moving Calendar

Making a plan may seem like a no-brainer but you would be surprised at how many people try to move without a plan in place. Start by filling in the events that cannot be missed such as your children’s exams or please and pageants. fill in get-togethers with your families but you may not be seen for a while.

2.  Consider Donating Unused Items

As you begin to clean out your closets and your garage you will come across items you forgot you even had. If you haven’t used an item in the last 8 to 12 months consider donating it to one of your local thrift stores or Goodwill stores.

3. Pace Yourself

If you try to pack all at once you will start to become frustrated and it will seem like you’re never going to finish. Because you already have your calendar filled out you can easily see when you can start packing and when you can take breaks.

Start with small areas like closets and cupboards. Then move on to guest rooms or areas of your house that you don’t use very often such as guest rooms. These small achievements will give you a sense of accomplishment and make you eager to finish the job.

4. Plan Family Gatherings Away From Your Home

As you get deeper into your packing activities your home is going to be in various stages of disarray. This is not the time to have family over.

Instead, have family gatherings add another family member’s home or if that’s not possible take family members out to eat or have drinks at a local restaurant.

If family gatherings absolutely must happen at your home consider doing a potluck where everyone brings their own dish. This will save on clean up and you can use paper plates instead of your own dishes that may already be packed away.

5. Search For Off-Season Discounts

For most moving companies their busy season is spring and summer. This usually means that they are more in need of business during the holidays. This is good news for you. Shop around and find the best deals in your area.
